10 wickets in an inning of Anil Kumble

Anil Radhakrishna Kumble, one of the living legends of Indian cricket history, born 17 October 1970. This tall thin leg spin bowler made his debut 25 April 1990 v Sri Lanka in ODI and at the end of the same year in test cricket against mighty England. He is one of few who have taken more than 600 wickets in international test cricket. This very talented leg spinner entered the record books by capturing all 10 Pakistani wickets in the second innings of a Test at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla on February 7, 1999. Before that this record was named of JC Laker an English off break bowler took 10 wickets in an ing against Australia in the year 1956 of 25 July at Manchester.

However, Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi started the innings in a display of flamboyant confidence that had fielders and spectators wondering about the certainty of an Indian victory. It was captain, Mohammad Azharuddin, asked Kumble to bowl at the pavilion end. At his new spell from pavilion end, he was getting some turn and India getting momentum to won the match. Two hours and 22 minutes since lunch break; it was good enough time for Anil kumble to make history by taking all 10 wickets in an inning.

Magic was started by taking the wicket of Shahid Afridi. It was outside the off Afridi nick that and wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia leaped up in appeal. Umpire AV Jayaprakash raised his finger. Afridi was not convinced with the decision and Kumble still claims that there was a big edge. Whatever it broke opening stand of 103 runs.

At number 3, Ijaz Ahmed came to face the next bowl of Kumble. It was full and strait delivery hit the pad and easy decision to made Jayaprakash did not hesitate in raising his finger again.

Next batsman to step up was Inzamam-ul-Haq to face hat-trick; he managed to survive the hat-trick, but did not stay long. He got out by playing tentative short outside the off. In no time pakistant lost 3 wickets within 12 runs.

In that critical situation, Mohammod Yousuf, known as epandabl;e midle oredr batsman, came to bat and played down the wrong line as Kumble fired his faster delivery down the middle and was trapped plumb. He only survived two deliveries.

Next batsman to follow after dismissing solid middle order was wicket keeper batsman Moin Khan was promoted in the order ahead of an injured Saleem Malik; he used to play attacking cricket and also known as a decent player of spin. Unfortunately he did not last long either. Kumble flight the delivery outside the off and Moin edge and got out at the slip. It was 127 with half the Pakistan side back in the hutch, and Kumble had taken all five.

Get back from lunch, history was written completely. Sayeed Anwar, one of the stylish left handed batsman, he was playing really well throughout the innings. Kumble was bowling on the rough outside the left-hander off stump, but it had been negotiated with ease. Then kumble decided to bowl over the wicket and floated a slow leg-break. Set batsman Anwar did not pick that delivery and nicked that and got out at the short leg. Before dismissed he manage to score 69 runs. First time kumble thought that he could take all the ten.

Still Pakistan had batsman to challenge the Indian batsman. Salim Malik, one of the dependable batsmen of Pakistan, came to bat at the lower order due to injure fort with Wasim Akram. Wasism Akram was known for bowling but has the ability to bat at the lower order in the time of crisis. They put together strong fight and bat for almost one hour and walked back for tea.
After the brake, Malik was not looking comfortable to move his feet due to injured and restricted in movement. Kumble got opportunity to get his wicket. The ball was pitched short, and the batsman automatically went for the pull. He was late on it and the ball did not rise as much as he anticipated. The ball hit the top of the stumps and Malik paused for an important while in disappointment before starting out on that unavoidable walk.

Now it was Pkistani leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed turn to come and face dominating Indian leg spinner. He managed to stay at the cries for four over’s only before the ball struck the shoulder of the bat and lobbed to Dravid in the slip.

Following that Saqulain Mushtaq got out at the very next ball. Kumble bowled his magical straight delivery and struck low on his pads right in front. No problem for the umpire to raise his finger to gave out.

After the wicket of Saqulain Mushtaq, Pakistan were 198 for 9 in no time. India was looking forward to make come back at the series and same time Kumble stood on the brink of history. Indian players ware in that same short of situation when Kapil Dev had aimed for the world record of Richard Hadlee, Kumble had bowled wide of the stumps against Sri Lanka to allow the Indian all-rounder to get there. In this time responsibility was in the hand of Javagal Srinath.

Now two world best bowling partner ware batting at the cries to save Pakistan. Plan was simple allow Wasim akram to take single and brought Waquar at the Strick and attack. That situation Wasim Akram refused to take singles. Then it was kumbles turn to produce magical deliveries to create magical moment. He bowled normal leg- break and Akram Akram played at it and the inside edge travelled fast to short leg. It was straight forward chance to VVS laxman and he did not miss that opportunity.
India won the match by 212 runs and drown the two match test series 1-1. Most importantly, that test match became historical because of fantastic bowling performance by Anil kumble. He became the second man after English off spin bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings.

He ended his spell with 10 for 74. This was the most valuable moment for the Anil carrier as well as history of Indian cricket. In that season, kumbles magic was going on and took 88 wickets in a season.

Thereafter, this you talented right are leg spin bowler played more than ten years and ended his test carrier as a highest wicket taker in the history of Indian cricket till now and third highest wicket taker after Murli and Shan.
